Film Aesthetics Movies present a media form that is much more than simply a play captured on film. The movie presents us with an opportunity to experience every possible sensation either directly or by inference. While a film is primarily visual and audio, a good filmmaker can tap into our inner sensations by showing us things that trigger smell or touch memories. These memories allow us to feel the movement of a scene, to taste the food on tables, to feel the touch of a kiss, and to smell the sweat and fear in a mob. In the context of films viewed in this class, we find that there are sensations and aesthetics which trigger emotional and sensory responses in us. These triggers are found in music, camera movement, dialogue, editing, color wash, and sound. It is the purpose of this paper to examine my personal reactions to the films, "The Gold Rush", "Metropolis", "Gold Diggers of 1933", "Zero for Conduct", "Meshes of the Afternoon", "Casablanca", and "The Bicycle Thief".
